LEPIDOPTERA: Art + Ecology
This began as a project to identify common garden butterflies, moths and their caterpillars. They also generate curiosity about the natural world, add beauty and inspire hope.  In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I set about creating one hundred small butterfly paintings to be distributed to medical professionals and other essential workers. Together with my son we gifted sixty so far.
ART FOR ENVIRONMENTAL + SOCIAL CHANGE
For centuries the butterfly has been a symbol of change, resilience, hope and much more in various cultures. Using the black swallowtail butterfly as a base, this art is meant to bring awareness about social and environmental inequalities created by systemic racism.
